Fabulous France Dec 2016 (Day 12): Last full day in Strasbourg

We started the day bright and early with a boat tour on the River Ill, which was a great way to see the Strasbourg landmarks- not only the historic areas, but also the new areas where the European institutions are. The boat also goes through a few canal locks, which is of course interesting to experience.

Next on the itinerary was to see the astronomical clock located in the cathedral. The main attraction was the procession of the figures of Christ and the apostles at noon, while the cock crows thrice. We waited a long time to see this- starting from the queue outside the cathedral, right up to the waiting in the area in front of the clock (a video was played to keep us occupied but the quality was fairly poor- so it sort of defeated the purpose). Was the wait worth it? Absolutely not. Skip this- what a waste of time! We could have done better spending more time at our next destination (see further below).

After lunch we caught a bus to Le Vaisseau, a really fun hands-on science centre for children aged 3-15. One of the highlights was a walk in the dark- which was really scary. It really helps one to appreciate what it feels like to be blind; and truth be told I almost had a panic attack doing this. Another good exhibit showed how canal locks work, and for some reason I could not get my head round this... I felt so dumb. Duh!

The kids had a whale of a time, and all of us wished we could stay longer. However, dinner with the rest of the family was waiting for us- our last dinner in France before our flight home the next day. It was a yummy home-cooked meal, a lovely end to a busy day!
