Las Carretas Damansara, Semantan Avenue

'Foodie' boss decided to take us out to lunch at Las Carretas Damansara, taking advantage of the 2-hr Friday lunch break. It's been a while since I last dined at Las Carretas (have only ever tried the food at the Ampang branch); so I certainly didn't mind!

We tried the Poppers- deep fried battered jalapenos stuffed with four types of cheese. Fortunately it wasn't too spicy (a tummyache would have been inconvenient, to say the least) :p

I had a Burrito Del Mar- a rolled warm flour tortilla filled with seafood. It had lots of cheese inside; halfway through I was stuffed! All in all, a really satisfying main course.

For dessert we tried the Deep Fried Mexican Ice-Cream. We expected it to be in the form of ice-cream balls, but they were more of ice-cream discs, heh. It still tasted good; although more ice-cream would have been better! :D

Thursday Night Market, Plaza Mont Kiara

It had been a while since we went to this night market, and so we decided to grab dinner there one fine evening. Off we went to Plaza Mont Kiara, parked in the underground basement and walked up the stairs only to find this...

Scaffolding? What happened to the market?

Surely they cannot be building another block right in the middle of the courtyard? Yes, we know buildings and condominimums are popping up like mushrooms on every square foot of Mont Kiara... but surely this is ridiculous. O_o

Upon closer inspection of the scaffolding, we realised that these were just enhancement plans for Plaza Mont Kiara. The previous fountain in the middle of the courtyard is supposed to be replaced by this-

Looks interesting. Hmm, are those people wading in the fountain? Guess we shall have to wait and see :)

Ah ha- so THIS is where the night market has gone! :D

We turned the corner, and there it was... The original layout was much better of course, but the same stalls still seem to be open. No complaints there!

Durian Cravings

Both of us have had a craving for durians for the longest time now. We'd drive past the durian stall on the way home, catch a whiff of the lovely fragrance, contemplate making a u-turn back to the stall... but end up deciding against it in the end. Too many calories! Too heaty! The 'excuses' managed to keep us from succumbing to the cravings; for a while at least....

We lost the battle one day at Jusco (of all places), where the sight of durian packed neatly into boxes was just too much for us. We know, we know- where's the fun in eating durian like that? What to do- our cravings needed to be put to a stop!! :p

Was it nice? Can't even remember now. But at the moment, at least we've stopped talking about eating durians! :D

Dinner at Chili's

Mum and Moonie were up in KL last week and we ended up having dinner at Chili's on Saturday. Dining at Chili's is always fun, though from experience it doesn't seem like all the Chili's outlets are created equal... :p We went (as usual) to the outlet in Bangsar Shopping Centre- no complaints so far!

Shared 3 items between the 4 of us; which were more than enough. Kicked off with the Triple Play; love this starter- especially the dips. This is the only time I don't mind eating celery!

Mum wanted the Citrus Fire Chicken & Prawns; and all because of? The rice. ??? Sounds like the latest KFC 'We Must Have Rice' advertisement, heh :D Yup, I guess she's a bit of a 'fan tong'.

We decided to try their new filling for the fajitas- Steak and Portobello, which came with a lovely chimichurri sauce. Moonie and I could not figure out what the sauce was made of, and asking the waitress wasn't much help either. Anyway, I found it on the internet.

Dancing Shakespeare

Moonie brought this back for us from her lovely loooong holiday in England, Scotland and Wales. Cute huh- all the limbs are adjustable. So cool to have a 'dancing' Shakespeare on my fridge door! :D

Steamboat Porridge at Tasty Hotpot

Yup, I DO mean steamboat porridge. It's pretty much like a normal steamboat, except that there is porridge instead of the usual soup. We arrived at 7 p.m. and the place was PACKED! Fortunately we made a reservation so we were ushered to our table without much fuss. The restaurant is air-conditioned too, which makes eating steamboat so much more comfortable.. :)

The usual ingredients are featured- all kinds of balls! We ordered a set for 3 people; hence there were exactly 3 of each item. We also ordered some other things- jellyfish salad and an otak-otak yau char kuai; no photos though, sorry.

In they go into the pot! The porridge is in the left section; it has to be stirred every now and then to prevent it sticking to the bottom. We also had the usual soup. Both the porridge and the soup tasted so sweet after absorbing the wonderful flavours of the ingredients. Yummy! :D

Many thanks to chipmunkrock for organising the girls' night out! The restaurant, Tasty Hotpot- is in Sri Petaling... but I don't quite recall how to get there, so I guess I might not be the best person to ask for directions! :p

Tagged: 6 weird things about me

Being new to this whole blogging thing, everything is a novelty- hence my strange request to Fatboy, pleading with him to tag me! :D

Here are the rules of the 'Tag':

RULES: People who are tagged should write a blog post of 6 weird things about them as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don’t forget to leave a comment that says ‘you are tagged’ in their comments and tell them to read your blog.

Anyway, here is my list of 6 weird things:

1. I absolutely have to wash my feet before going to bed. I don't dry them- I like the feeling of my cold, wet feet slowly drying off on the bed. Have been scolded and told numerous times that rheumatism will plague me one of these days...

2. I love the feeling of getting into a warm car that has been sitting in the sun for a while. Everyone else winds down the window, turn the air-condition on full blast while waiting for the inside of the car to cool down a little. Me- I just hop right in and enjoy the warmth seep right into my bones. Mmmmm...

3. I need to count to three when I do certain things- e.g. locking my car, turning off the bathroom light. So please don't think I'm nuts when you catch me muttering 1-2-3, 1-2-3...

4. I can 'crack' almost every single joint in my body; working from head to toe- my neck, back, elbow, wrist, knuckles, knees, ankles and toes. It scares the living daylights out of people.

5. My palms have the strangest reaction when it comes into contact with hand creams or moisturisers. It gets redder and redder and beads of sweat can be seen forming on my palms after I've slathered on some cream. I demonstrated this weird reaction to some people once and they seemed quite shocked... :p

6. I like to 'split' fingernails. No idea what that is? You know the bit of the fingernail that nail-biters chew on? Well if you look very closely you might notice that these sometimes have a few 'layers' which you can separate and peel off. The closest thing that I can think of to describe this would be like 'splitting' the OTHER side of a double-sided tape AFTER you've stuck it onto a piece of paper (say). Now this is quite an obsession of mine; when my siblings were much younger (and hence less likely to put up a protest), I used to grab their hands and feet (yup toenails can be 'split' too) to satisfy my craving!!

Ok, according to the rule of the 'Tag', I need to tag 6 other people. The 'lucky' ones are jesscet, chipmunkrock, foodiefighters, fatchipmunk, litsberger and dimsuminthecity... :D

New Paris Restaurant, SS2

Every now and then we find ourselves back at this restaurant. It seems to operate on a 'fast-food' basis, but it looks like people don't mind- the restaurant is always packed, even though there are 3 floors!

Eating there seems to be rather cheap- guess their 'fast food' modus operandi (which results in a high turnover of customers) really works, since what they 'lose' in per unit profit, they 'gain' in overall volume.

As usual, we go for our favourite- 'Champagne Watermelon Chicken'; the watermelon balls are just so cute :)

Tried the yam basket, but we opted for the filling to be sweet & sour pork (there were different fillings to choose from, and since we were already having chicken...), which tasted kinda strange. Guess the tastebuds just could not figure out why those two flavours were together, so looks like we'll just stick to the 'usual' fillings in the future...

D-Day Disaster!!

D-Day was such a disaster! But oh well, have gotten kinda used to it already; fighting one battle after another, though it's usually the same recurring one... :p

Proceeded to further compound my depression by watching yet another disaster movie- 'Sunshine', starring our very own Datuk Michelle Yeoh. It's 50 years in the future, the sun is dying and the earth is frozen in a solar winter. A team of astronauts are sent to re-ignite the dying sun by detonating a massive bomb inside it.

Wonder why they named the spacecraft Icarus- isn't that a bad omen? Seems to be rather ironic, especially since they are flying towards the sun... Find out more about the story of Icarus here.
